Lima City has grown in size and population over the last decades, recieving thousands of people who abandoned the hard and bad paid work in the fields, searching for better opportunities in the big city of Lima.
Miguel Grau, a peruvian war hero, gave his surname to the Av. Grau. The Av. Grau, crosses the disctricts of La Victoria, El Agustino and Barrios Altos. The name comes from the word grau, that means gray in german.
Every time the busdriver called out his route „Todo Grau! Todo Grau!“ to catch more passengers, I heard, more than the legacy of a national hero, an uncounscious lament, sometimes lethargic, sometimes aggressive: All gray! All gray!
