Paraaco - Portraits of a Paradoxical Region
Paracas* is a region in Peru, which due to its geographical position should be endowed with a subtropical climate, but the cold waters of the Peru Current avoid the precipitations over the region, transforming the landscape into a desert. This phenomenon fascinated me, and even more when I discovered the original name of Paracas (Paraaco) and its meaning.
*In Quechua, Para means rain and Aco sand. Paraaco, the sand shower.
After the Spanish conquest, its name changed to Paracas.
With these facts in mind, a sense of mystery and profound respect arose in me. Silence had a voice, and the shower was sand.
